The Delhi High Court is hearing the bail plea filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Delhi excise policy case.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna is hearing the matter.

The Court had earlier reserved its orders in the interim bail plea by Kejriwal as well as the plea filed by him challenging his arrest by the CBI.

These orders were expected to be pronounced before the hearing in the main bail plea but they are yet to be delivered.

The case against Kejriwal stems from alleged irregularities in the framing of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy of 2021-22.

The case involves allegations that several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders including Kejriwal were involved in deliberately leaving behind loopholes in the excise policy in exchange for kickbacks from liquor lobbies.

The case is being probed by both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Kejriwal was arrested in the matter first by the ED on March 21. He was briefly released on interim bail for two weeks on the Supreme Court’s orders so that he could campaign for the now-concluded Lok Sabha elections. He returned to Tihar jail on June 2.

More recently, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail again in connection with the ED case, while the Court deliberates on larger questions concerning the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) which are tied to the issue of whether his March 21 arrest was legal.

However, despite this interim bail order, he continues to remain in jail since the CBI also formally arrested him in the case on June 26 while he was in judicial custody in connection with the ED case.
